Air Force Crane Course Practice Test

Load indicator devices monitor the weight being lifted and compare it to the crane’s rated capacity for the current setup. They typically display the current load and trigger alarms or visible indicators when that load approaches or exceeds the limit. This gives the operator a clear, immediate cue to stop, reconfigure, or otherwise reduce the lift before an overload occurs, protecting the crane, rigging, and personnel. They don’t automatically adjust crane speed, don’t measure ambient temperature at the load, and don’t replace rigging inspections. The core function is to indicate when a load is near or over capacity and prompt corrective action.
